Celebration of Life — Esther Amelia (Amy) Sherrard
Esther Amelia "Amy" Sherrard
October 28, 1917 - February 2, 2022
Amy Sherrard, the author of My Bible First children's curriculum, quietly passed away on February 2, 2022.
She was born in the New England area, the only child of Roby and Mable Hubley. She spent her formative years with her missionary parents first in Nova Scotia, Canada, then in India and Burma. Later, as an adult, she and her husband returned to Asia and spent 20 years divided between the Philippines and Singapore. On their return to the United States, she worked as a nurse and health educator in Southern California. On retirement, she moved with her husband to Wichita, KS to be with their three grandchildren. While in Wichita, she started the CHIP for churches. She remained involved in this ministry for many years. At the age of 80, she embarked on probably her most important work: writing Bible lessons for primary age children. This ministry rapidly grew into what is now My Bible First and has brought thousands of children all over the world to Jesus.
She is survived by her two daughters: Sherry (Phil) Mills and Dena (George) Guthrie; three grandchildren: Rachel (Eric) Nelson, Ruthie (Joe) Reeves, and Philip (Lindsey) Mills; five great grandchildren: Amy and Michael Nelson, Hudson and Joanna Reeves, and Chloe Mills; and an adopted granddaughter Heidi (Ransey) Aneo and her four children: Dallas, Marcilena, David, and Bre'anna.

Celebration of Life — Doug Stewart
It is with great sorrow and honor that I write this tribute to a beloved member of the Blue Mountain Academy family. Mr. Doug Stewart passed to his rest on the evening of December 25, 2021. He will be remembered fondly by both his colleagues and his students.Doug was known for his honest, outspoken nature among his fellow staff members, and he was considered a favorite by his students.
Mr. Stewart began his time at BMA in the fall of 1998. Over the years, he taught classes in English, history, government, and psychology, and was the sponsor for the National Honor Society on campus for many years. He will be remembered for many things, but the two most notable characteristics were the warm and loving heart beating beneath a very tough exterior, and his undying passion for Jesus and the salvation of his students. Many students have said that he was the toughest teacher they ever had. Those same students admit that he was also their favorite teacher! There was no doubt that he loved his students and, above all, wanted them to know Jesus.
Mr. Stewart’s retirement in May of 2020 may be considered by many the end of an era at BMA. There would be no more of his special brand of jokes and stories, no more history class book reports, no more DBQs, no more 100-question test study guides, no more mock trials and psychology projects.
Now we are saddened again because he is gone from this life. But “we have this hope that burns within our hearts, hope in the coming of the Lord.” We know that we can look forward to a day when there will be no more good-byes, no more tears or sorrow, when we can meet again those whom we love that have died in the faith of Jesus. I look forward to that day with all my heart!
Mr. Stewart, we love you and know that we will see you again when Jesus comes again.
-Barbara Mathias
The family is requesting donations to the Douglas Stewart Scholarship Fund at BMA in lieu of flowers. This fund is stipulated to go to the seniors of 2022 on an as-needed basis, they are the last class of students he taught.
